Submission Guide

Cerulean Rain Publishing is looking for original unpublished works from new and established writers. We are looking for works that go beyond mainstream and push the boundaries of what people are used to reading. We are open to any genre except erotica. We like to see experimental works and writers that take risks in their writing. We are open to any theme, but we especially like darker themes, existential themes, life and death themes, mental illness, other worldly themes, and anything that looks at the universe from a unique perspective.

All submissions have to be submitted by email. Please put your submissions in an attachment in either a word document or a PDF document (.doc, .pdf, or .rtf only). In the body of the email, please put a cover letter (including a synopsis), short biography about yourself (300 words or less) and tell us if you have been published before and where. Please put the word count in the body of the email. Please feel free to include any other comments in your email. Also, please let us know if this is a simultaneous submission. We accept multiple submissions but no reprints. In the subject line, please put:
"Submission: __type of submission__/__author name__"

These are the different types of submissions we are looking for:

Fiction:

Novels (40k +)
Novellas (15-40k)
Novelettes (7.5-15k)
Short Stories (1-7.5k)
Flash Fiction (< 1k)

Poetry:

Poetry (any length)
Poetry Collections

Single poems will be published together in anthologies. Short and flash fiction may be included in these anthologies.

Non-Fiction:

Journals
Diaries
Memoirs
Autobiographies

We are looking for non-fiction that tells the story of someone's experiences. It can take the form of a person's journals, diaries, memoirs, or an autobiography. We are particularly interested in adverse experiences, such as those struggling with mental illness, abuse, or some other form of adversity.

E-zines

We are looking for e-zines, or electronic magazines, with various themes and topics. We aren't exactly sure what we are looking for, so if you have an e-zine needing a publisher/website to be posted on, or an idea for an e-zine, run it by us and maybe it will be something we are interested in. Ideally, it will be in a PDF document and published on a regular basis like any magazine.

Series:

"Space"

We are looking to publish series based on a theme or topic. One topic we know we want to publish a series on is "Space". For this, we are looking for works that take place "out of this world" such as in space, in another universe, on another planet, on a starship, in the future, etc. We are planning on regularly publishing some type of work (poetry, fiction, or anything else that fits) by various writers on this topic. We are open to starting other series so if you have an idea for a good one that fits in with the general concept of Cerulean Rain, please feel free to suggest it. We're starting with space as a theme because admittedly the Editor in Chief is fascinated, even obsessed, with space and wants to indulge in it.

Other information for authors:

Because this is a free press, we do not pay writers for their works. This might be discouraging to writers and authors, but there is a philosophy behind the free press. We want to encourage readers to read works, discover new authors, and explore the world of electronic books. Some of the things we publish are not mainstream or things that readers are used to reading and paying money for. We want to encourage the reader to experiment in reading as much as we want writers to experiment in writing. We want writers to be able to make a name for themselves and showcase their works and we think a free press will open up a new world for readers and writers alike to explore, discover, experiment, and grow. To us, writing and publishing isn't about money, it's about discovery and growth, and the love and passion of writing.

We ask for one-time electronic publication rights. All rights will revert back to the author after publication. We will work with writers before we publish to edit and ensure works are ready for publication. Works will be published in a .pdf file that will be downloadable for free off the website. We will promote the website and works published on it in various ways, such as by having Cerulean Rain Publishing listed on various web lists, and having a page to promote us on facebook and any other place we can find. We ask that writers help promote their works and the website as well. Because this is a free press and we don't make any money, we are limited to promotion via free methods. Cerulean Rain Publishing is a partnership between the writers, editors and publishers to create a place for writers to flourish, readers to explore, and the e-publishing world to grow.
